The best push-up counter apps in 2026, from camera counters to proximity hacks
Counting your own push-ups is a small tax on every set. You lose count at seventeen, you round up, and your "100 push-up challenge" spreadsheet quietly becomes fiction. The apps below all remove that tax, but they do it in two very different ways, and the difference matters more than any feature list.
We build MyRepsCount, one of the apps below. Competitor details come from App Store and Google Play listings as of August 2026.
Camera counters vs proximity counters
Proximity-sensor apps have been around for years: you put the phone on the floor under your face, and each time your nose approaches the sensor, that is one rep. It works, sort of, and it is better than nothing. But it counts nose dips, not push-ups. Sagging hips, flared elbows, and two-inch dips all count the same as a full clean rep.
Camera counters watch your whole body through the phone's camera and track your joints. That lets them require a real range of motion before a rep counts, which changes the app from a clicker into something closer to a judge. Every serious entry in 2026 is camera based, so that is most of this list.
1. MyRepsCount
iPhone and Android. Free. Six push-up variations plus 55 other exercises.
Ours counts standard push-ups, military push-ups, wide fly, decline, diamond, and dive bombers, each tracked as its own movement. That matters once you get past week two of any push-up program, because progression means variations, not just bigger numbers. It is also the only app here where push-ups are one exercise among more than sixty, so the same camera counts your squats, pullups, and kettlebell swings when push-up day is over. Counting is free on both platforms, there are leaderboards and monthly challenges to keep the numbers honest, and if you want push-ups to unlock your social apps, Focus does that too.
2. PUSHapp
iPhone. Free, no sign-up.
The best single-purpose push-up counter we have seen. It counts from the camera, validates depth so half reps do not count, and asks for nothing: no account, no subscription. If you want exactly one exercise counted strictly and nothing else on your phone, this is the honest recommendation, and it is not us.
3. Puuush (Push Up Counter & Tracker)
iPhone and Apple Watch.
Puuush counts through the camera and, notably, through the Apple Watch using motion sensors, which makes it the pick if you want to count push-ups without propping a phone anywhere. It adds structured programs toward goals and leaderboards. The watch counting is the differentiator; if you own one, put this on the shortlist.
4. Top Pushup
iPhone. The strict judge.
Top Pushup's pitch is form policing: it refuses to count sagged, piked, or sideways reps. If your problem is not counting but cheating, a strict judge is genuinely useful, and this is the strictest of the single-purpose counters.
5. The proximity-sensor generation
iPhone and Android. Free and everywhere.
Apps like Push Up Counter - 100 Pushups still use the proximity sensor (with camera assist in newer versions) and still work if all you want is a tally without setup. Just know what they measure: face dips. For a casual daily habit, fine. For anything you would call training, the camera counters above are a level up.
Which one?
- Just push-ups, counted strictly, zero commitment: PUSHapp.
- Counting from your wrist: Puuush on Apple Watch.
- A form cop: Top Pushup.
- Push-ups as part of actual workouts, with variations, squats, pulls, and everything else counted by the same camera, free on both platforms: that is ours. App Store / Google Play.
